The summary of Shah Wali-ullah’s advices is:

  • Do not unnecessarily keep company with the wealthy.

  • Abstain from the company of ignorant Sufis, spiritually barren Ulama, and those who are engrossed in philosophy and logic.

  • Be in the company of an Alim who is a Sufi, who has renounced the world, who loves Thikrullah and the Sunnah, who does not give preference to one madh-hab over another.

  • Follow your own madh-hab (without believing that your madh-hab is better than that of another).

  • Do not give preference to one Sufi Path over another Sufi Path (one Silsilah over another).

[While it is incumbent to adhere to one’s madh-hab, it is improper to denigrate any of the four madh-habs. All four madh-habs are the Truth and collectively constitute the Ahlus-Sunnah Wal Jama’ah.]

  • Maalik Bin Dinaar Rahmatullah ‘Alayh has given us much to ponder upon. He said:

“A companionship which will be of no benefit on the Day of Qiyaamah is futile”.

“A man, who indulges in idle conversation and remembers Allah little, lacks knowledge. His heart is blind. His life is ruined.”

  • Hadhrat Muhammad Waasi’ Rahmatullah ‘Alayh once said:

“A Saadiq (true saint) is not a perfect Saadiq as long as his fear and hope are not equal. (There should be neither a deficiency nor excess in these attributes. A perfect balance between the two is necessary. Excess or deficiency leads to transgression of the limits.)

  • Once Hadhrat Imaam Shaafi Rahmatullah ‘Alayh and Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hambal Rahmatullah ‘Alayh met. While they were conversing, Habib Ajmi Rahmatullah ‘Alayh appeared on the scene.

Imaam Ahmad said to Imaam Shaafi: “I shall ask him something.” Although Imaam Shaafi discouraged Imaam Ahmad, the latter asked Habib Ajmi: “If a person has missed one of the five salaats (and cannot remember which one), what should he do?”

Habib Ajmi replied: “He should repeat all five salaats because he was forgetful and disrespectful to Allah Ta’ala.”

Imaam Shaafi told Imaam Ahmad: “I told you not to question him. These people who have reached Allah Ta’ala have a different approach.”

Sheikh Moulana Ibrahim Mia (Rahmatullah Alayhi) emphasised the need for Taleem (Learning & Teaching Deen) at home.

Some of the books Sheikh encouraged were Faza'il Sadaqat and Deen ke Baate (a fiqh kitab, available in English). Part 2 of Fazai'il Sadaqaat was empahsised for the softening of the hearts of the family. Sheikh (Rahmatullah Alayhi) also encouraged the reading of Hazrat Sheikh Zakariyya's (Rahmatullah Alayhi) other kitabs.

Amongst the advices he used to impart to those in Itikaaf was that we it is us who sat in Itikaaf and not the family. We should not expect the family to be suddenly spiritually boosted when we return home and then be harsh with them. Rather, we should start taleem and win them with hikmat. This will slowly bring about the desired changes.

The mothers of our pious elders played an important role in the upbringing of their children.

We have collected a few stories from Pearls from the Path by Moulana Afzal Ismail (DB) together with a few duas for children from the Quran Shareef.

Advices to Students of the girls madrasah on Friday, 3 Feb 2012

Allah sent us to the world for the sole purpose of worshipping Him. Allah says:

و ما خلقت الجن والانس الا ليعبدون

  • Worship of Allah can only be done correctly if we learn the rules and regulations of this worship from the Ahadith and laws of Fiqh. To do Ibadah in the proper way, you need to have Ilm regarding it. By learning the Sunnah method of discharging that Ibadah, the Ibadah will be perfected. If it is not according to the Sunnah, the Ibadah will be haphazard and will not earn acceptance in the court of Allah .

  • We are taught in the Ahadith how to spend the 24 hours of our day. We need to make Shukr for the great position that Allah has placed us in. It comes in a Hadith:

من يرد الله به خيرا يفقهه فى الدين

For whomsoever Allah wishes goodness, He blesses him with the understanding of Deen.

As students we need to make Shukr for being chosen from amongst these people who have been chosen to learn Deen. Allah Ta’ala Says:

لئن شكرتم لئزيدنكم

If you are thankful, I will most definitely increase for you.

  • Deen is only good if you learn and practice upon it, otherwise it will be similar to the case of a donkey, which is carrying the JALALAIN AND SIHAH SITTAH. The Ilm will only benefit if it is put into practice for the pleasure of Allah . Follow Allah’s command and the Sunnah of Nabi Kareem and you will attain Allah’s love.
