Fahm-e-Saleem (healthy intelligence) and tafaqquh fid Deen (the ability to ponder over Deen) are attained by such students who have studied with attention and who have managed to please their Asaatizah. A student who has merely made effort without keeping his Asaatizah happy will never acquire true Ilm (of Deen).

[Malfoothaat, by Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi Rahmatullah ‘Alayh]

Our Hadhrat Maulana Muhammad Ya’qoob Rahmatullah ‘Alayh narrated: “Once Hadhrat Khidhr ‘Alayhis Salaam met Hadhrat Ibrahim bin Adham Rahmatullah ‘Alayh who was engrossed in Thikrullah at the time. After shaking hands, Hadhrat bin Adham immediately resumed his Thikr. Somewhat surprised, Hadhrat Khidhr said: ‘You have not recognised me. I am Khidhr.’

Ibrahim bin Adham said: ‘Fine, it may be so. Because I have not met you before I did not recognise you.’

After making this comment, he once again became engrossed in Thikr. With much surprise Khidhr thought: ‘He is truly unconcerned.’ He then commented: ‘Brother, you are very indifferent. Other people yearn to meet me, but are not blessed with the opportunity. I, myself, have come to meet you, but you pay no attention.’

For the reformation of women it is sufficient that they study Deeni Kitaabs. Besides this, it is virtually impossible nowadays for them to find a female who could serve as a role-model and whom they can safely emulate. Furthermore, the women today have no confidence in their husbands. It is therefore best that the husband should read the Deeni Kitaabs to them. The husband should endeavour to reform the moral character of his wife – whether she reforms or not. If the husband reads the Deeni Kitaabs to his wife, he will at least save himself from apprehension by Allah.

(1) Hadhrat Thaanvi had granted a certain Thaakir (one who passes his time in Thikrullaah) some time for discussion after Maghrib at his request. After Maghrib, Hadhrat called him because he was seated at a distance. Although the Thaakir started to come towards Hadhrat, he did not answer the call to indicate that he had heard it. But, Hadhrat was not apprized of his coming, hence he called a second time.

Meanwhile the Thaakir had arrived. Hadhrat asked:

"Why did you not answer? By answering, the caller will know that the one who has 'been called has heard the call. By not replying, there is uncertainty and this necessitates repeated calling. This inconvenience is the result purely of your negligent attitude. What difficulty was there in saying, 'Yes!'? Nowadays, academic knowledge is imparted in every place. But, there is a dearth of Akhlaaq (moral character). Now I have been annoyed and perplexed. I will give you another time. Remember this
